Information you provide
Most site features do not require an account. If you subscribe to The College Pros Compass, we collect your email address, first name, role, planning stage, optional graduation year and interests, consent choices, signup source, and confirmation history. The cost planner calculates in your browser; the values you enter are not submitted to our server. Saved colleges are stored in your browser’s local storage and can be removed by clearing site data.
How we use newsletter information
We use subscription information to confirm your request, send the newsletter and service messages, personalize content, maintain suppression and preference records, prevent abuse, understand which signup experiences work, and document consent. We do not sell subscriber email addresses.
Email service providers
We use contracted email-delivery providers to process subscriber records and deliver messages on our behalf. They may process delivery, bounce, complaint, unsubscribe, and limited engagement events under their own security and data-processing commitments. We configure email tracking conservatively and do not include sensitive information in referral URLs.
Information collected automatically
Our web host may process standard server logs such as IP address, browser type, requested page, timestamp, and security events to operate, protect, and diagnose the site. Newsletter abuse controls may retain a one-way keyed representation of an IP address for a limited period rather than the address itself.
Partner links
When you follow a disclosed partner link, the destination may receive referral and campaign parameters and apply its own privacy policy. We do not control a partner’s site. Review its terms before providing personal or financial information.
Cookies and tracking
We do not use advertising cookies at launch. Essential hosting or security technology may be used. Any future marketing or cross-site tracking will require an appropriate consent experience where law requires it.
Children
The site and newsletter are intended for people age 13 or older and for parents or guardians planning with younger students. A child under 13 should not subscribe or provide personal information; a parent or guardian may subscribe for the family.
Retention and security
Unconfirmed subscription requests expire and are removed on a schedule. Confirmed subscription, consent, preference, and suppression records are retained as needed to provide the service, honor opt-outs, prevent abuse, and meet legal obligations. No internet service can promise absolute security, but we use reasonable safeguards and minimize collection by design.
Your choices
Every newsletter includes an unsubscribe option. Subscribers can update preferences, request access or deletion where applicable, or contact privacy@thecollegepros.org. We may retain the minimum suppression record needed to ensure an unsubscribed address is not mailed again.
Changes
We will post material changes here and revise the update date. Continued use after an effective change means the revised policy applies.
